Gary Pisoni evoked a passion for wine that would ultimately shape how the Santa LuciaHighlands were perceived. In 1982, he planted Pinot Noir on a rugged mountain site many believed unsuitable for viticulture—an undertaking marked by obstacles, firsts, and naysayers.Through the cultivation of his proprietary Pinot Noir selection, the discovery of water, and unwavering perseverance, Gary established Pisoni Vineyards as one of California’s most revered sources of Pinot Noir.

Today, Pisoni Family Vineyards is guided by Gary and his sons, Mark and Jeff Pisoni—Mark as the farmer, Jeff as the winemaker—who carry forward this long-term vision with deep respect for the grapevines and the land. Together, they are committed to sustainable farming and the careful crafting of wines.The family produces wine under three labels: Pisoni Estate, Lucia by Pisoni, and Lucy. Together, these wines offer distinct expressions of place and philosophy, each shaped by the family’s hands-on approach and deep connection to the vineyards they farm.A lifelong friendship became a defining joint venture in 1996. In partnership with Gary Franscioni, Gary Pisoni established Garys’ Vineyard—a collaboration that later expanded to include Soberanes Vineyard in 2008 and WindRock Vineyard in 2020. These sites were born from shared values, deep trust, and a commitment to thoughtful, site-driven farming.
